Electric Mosquito Vaporizer: How It Works

How an electric mosquito liquid vaporizer works, how far one unit covers, where to place it at home, and how many units a flat needs.

What an electric liquid vaporizer is

An electric liquid vaporizer is a small plug-in device that holds a 45 ml bottle of mosquito liquid. It has no flame, no smoke and no daily refilling. You plug it into a 220V socket, switch it on, and it works quietly for the night. In Egypt, where summers are long and many flats keep windows open in the evening, it has become the default alternative to spraying a bedroom before bed.

PARPAR supplies two home models. The large desktop heater covers about 30 m² and suits a living room, a main bedroom or a small office. The spherical heater is smaller and suits a bedroom, a study or a child's room. Both run at 220V and 5W, so the electricity cost of running one overnight is negligible.

How it works

The device is deliberately simple:

  1. A wick inside the bottle draws liquid up to the heating element.
  2. The element warms the liquid gently, without burning it.
  3. The vapour rises and spreads through the room.
  4. One 45 ml bottle lasts 30 to 45 nights at normal settings.

The important idea is continuous, low-concentration release. A vaporizer does not knock insects down the way a spray does. It keeps the room at a level that mosquitoes avoid, hour after hour. That is why placement matters more than turning the dial to maximum.

How far one unit covers

ModelCoverageBest room
Large desktop heaterAbout 30 m²Living room, main bedroom, small office
Spherical heaterAbout 20 to 25 m²Bedroom, study, child's room

These figures assume closed doors and a normal ceiling height. If a room opens onto a corridor or an open kitchen, or if windows stay open, the effective coverage drops. In that case, move the unit closer to where people sit or sleep, or add a second unit rather than turning the first one up.

Where to place it

  • Height: 1 to 1.5 metres above the floor, on a bedside table, desk or low cabinet. Not on the floor.
  • Distance from people: 1 to 2 metres, not against the pillow or directly in front of the face.
  • Position in the room: a corner or the middle of the room, away from the door, window and air-conditioning airflow.
  • Places to avoid: next to a kitchen hob, in a bathroom, in direct sunlight, or on a balcony.
  • With children or pets: on a high surface they cannot reach, with the cable tucked away.

A common mistake is placing the unit on the windowsill because it looks ventilated. In practice the vapour is carried outside and the room never reaches an effective level. A corner on the downwind side of the room works better.

How many units a flat needs

Home sizeUnitsPlacement
One-bedroom flat, 40 to 60 m²1Bedroom
Two-bedroom flat, 70 to 90 m²1 to 2Main bedroom and living room
Three-bedroom flat, 100 to 120 m²2Main bedroom and living room; add one for a child's room
Villa or 120 m²+2 to 3One per occupied room

One unit is not meant to serve a whole flat. With doors closed, vapour does not travel well between rooms. Treating each room separately usually uses less liquid than running one device on maximum all night.

How long one 45 ml bottle lasts

At 8 to 10 hours a night, one 45 ml bottle lasts 30 to 45 nights, roughly one summer. Running the device all day, or leaving it on the highest setting, shortens that considerably. For normal home use, switch it on about 30 minutes before bed and off in the morning. There is no benefit in running it while the room is empty and the windows are open.

If a bottle empties much faster than 30 nights, check three things: the dial position, whether the device is left on during the day, and whether the bottle is the correct one for the device. A mismatched bottle can release liquid unevenly.

Safety around children, pets and pregnancy

  • Follow the label. Use only the liquid supplied for the device.
  • Keep the unit out of reach of children and pets, and do not let anyone play with the bottle.
  • Keep a moderate airflow; do not seal the room completely.
  • Do not touch the heating element, and do not open or refill a bottle yourself.
  • If someone in the household has respiratory sensitivity, test the device in a small room first and stop if it causes discomfort.

Common mistakes

  1. Switching it on and opening the window, so the vapour leaves the room.
  2. Putting it on the floor, where the vapour never reaches the height people breathe at.
  3. Using another brand's liquid with a bottle that does not fit the wick.
  4. Leaving the device plugged in after the bottle is empty.
  5. Expecting one device to cover a whole flat with the doors closed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to leave the vaporizer plugged in all night?

Yes, when used according to the label. Switch it off and unplug it when the bottle is empty or when nobody is at home, and never let it run dry.

Does one 45 ml bottle really last a month?

At 8 to 10 hours a night, 30 to 45 nights. Running it all day or at the highest setting uses it faster.

Is one unit enough for a bedroom?

A normal bedroom of 20 to 25 m² needs one unit. If the room opens onto a bathroom or wardrobe with the door open, place the unit on the side nearest the bed.

Can I take the device when I travel?

The device itself is portable, but check the airline's rules for liquids before packing. The 45 ml bottle is a consumer liquid and may be subject to cabin restrictions.
